David Fludd

David is an award-winning artist from New York. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Morehouse College and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking from the Yale School of Art. He also attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine and studied printmaking at New York University. 

David’s paintings feature spontaneous compositions that are informed by research into art history, music, literature, and painting. His art practice extends to drawing, mixed media, and printmaking. In addition to being a visual artist, David is a pianist who has performed in movies and on the concert stage. His work as a musician influences his painting technically and conceptually. Musical techniques such as diminution, augmentation, counterpoint, variation on form, and counterpoint are found in his paintings. 

David has received numerous awards and fellowships including the Guggenheim Fellowship in painting, the Rome Prize in painting, residencies at the Studio Museum in Harlem and Yaddo, and a fellowship at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts. In 2024, he was a resident at MacDowell.
